From May 30th to 31st, the final defense of the 2021 Western "9+1+2" Architectural Professional Teaching Alliance Joint Graduation Design and the "Zhongsheng Cup" Design Competition initiated by Chang'an was held at Northwestern University. With the title of "The person, the thing, the place, a dialogue between ancient and modern civilizations —— the protection and renewal planning and design of Chang'an City in the Han Dynasty", students should expand the thinking and design from the three aspects of city, landscape and architecture.
More than 180 teachers and students from 11 universities and colleges majoring in architecture participated in this activity. The activity was divided into three stages which are site investigation, online commentary and final defense. Hou Quanhua, the dean of the School of Architecture, Chang'an University, Yu Kanhua, the Vice Dean, Wulian, the professor in charge of the discipline, and more than 20 teachers and students participated in the event.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Song Jinxi, the dean of the School of Urban and Environment, Northwestern University. Wu Zhenlei, the member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the Vice President of Northwestern University, said in their speeches that the competition lasted for more than two months, and it was full of design works and it is s model of crossover, school-enterprise cooperation, and school-school cooperation.
In his speech, Professor Hou Quanhua, the dean of the School of Architecture, reiterated that multi-participation and multi-discipline were the original intention of the establishment of the teaching alliance, and the construction of the new engineering discipline posed higher challenges to the teaching methods and teaching organization of architectural professional education. Professor Chen Tian of Tianjin University, a member of the Teaching Steering Committee of the Architecture Major of the Ministry of Education, said in his speech that China's urban construction has entered the era of stock optimization.

A total of 52 groups of students majoring in urban and rural planning, architecture and landscape architecture participated in the final defense. Through the selection and evaluation of the experts, the "Zhongsheng Cup" final selection result of the competition jury committee is produced. A total of 9 groups from the School of Architecture in our school won awards, including 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 1 excellent work prize. Among them, the architecture major won the first prize, the second prize and the excellent work award in each group. The urban and rural planning major won the first prize and the second prize in each group. The landscape architecture major won the second prize and 3 third prizes.
Western "9+1+2" Architectural Professional Teaching Alliance Joint Graduation Design is jointly organized by the Western Nine Schools Architecture Professional Teaching Alliance and the "Planner" magazine. The Western Nine Schools Architecture Professional Teaching Alliance is organized by Chang’an Univversity, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Sichuan University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Northwestern University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Xinjiang University and Yunnan University, according to the principle of "voluntary, equality, win-win" are formed, in order to promote academic exchanges between universities in the western region, solve the key problems of urban and rural living environment in the west and improve the level of undergraduate teaching together, the sharing of teaching resources, develop students' geographical view for the purpose, to enhance the construction class specialized teaching quality as the goal, to promote the innovation of the design. Set up a platform for cooperation and exchange between production, study and research, expand professional exchanges among universities, and create professional teaching activities and brand competitions. Over the past five years, with the full support of the Planner magazine and Shaanxi Zhongsheng Planning and Design Institute, the teaching alliance has been expanding its influence, attracting positive responses from more universities. Xihua University and Lanzhou University of Technology also participated in the joint graduation project and "ZhongSheng Cup" design competition this year. It is believed that through the mutual exchanges among colleges and universities, teachers and students can learn from each other and promote together, which can not only show the spirit and style of each school, establish profound friendship, but also get more improvement in teaching level. The next (2022) event will be hosted by Southwest Jiaotong University.
